Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood. “This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office. “Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.” This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House. The animal, donated by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. A New Life Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release. “The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message. “It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.” Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
