2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Follows Poor Reception
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing unveiling last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a distinct vision.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
The news follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete content from Ismailer's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”
With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our players.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After some time of talks, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s leadership and experience in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having devoted the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all looking forward to keep observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
The President
