Broad Advisories for New Year's Day Heading into Friday, advisories are in place for Northern Ireland and from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and most of the south-east of England. Transport is anticipated to be disrupted. People have been urged to allow extra time for journeys on the road. Delays and cancellations are expected on the transport network. The Mercury Expected to Fall Even More Going into the new year, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," said forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are forecast to fall even more as wintry showers and strong winds are expected to affect the north of the country. Around 10cm of snow is forecast to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills. Medical Warnings Released Meanwhile, serious cold weather health warnings have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are due to stay active until noon on 5 January, with temperatures forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C. Officials said this signified the weather was likely to cause notable consequences across health and social care services. This encompasses a likely increase in the number of deaths among those with health conditions or those 65 and older.
