JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Seeks to Resolve the Anime's Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not precisely an brand-new film. Rather, the recent film from the Jujutsu Kaisen action franchise acts as a recap of the series' second installment stitched together with the first two episodes of its third season, which kicks off the Culling Games storyline from the original manga. This makes Execution, which recently received a latest teaser, the quickest way to see the beginning of the forthcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The feature launches in Japanese theaters on November 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.

The Culling Games Plot

In the Culling Game arc, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is introduced in the television series and is charged by jujutsu officials to take down his classmate Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight unfolds for the first time on the cinema screen, and if the animation team at the production house have something as special as the two-part Thunderclap episodes in store for viewers this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the surprise that fans have anticipated.

The "Thunderclap" Controversy

"The Thunderclap sequence" from season two is widely regarded as among the best moments in anime history, in spite of the significant debate in the previous year when the series first premiered. It was claimed that the animation team were enduring harsh deadlines to the extent, and the final version that aired at the time was incomplete and supposedly not what the animators originally planned.

The Intense Confrontation

The scene involves a long-awaited battle between two powerful sorcerers, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It boasts innovative art style, superb cinematography, and intense action. A subsequent Blu-ray release allowed the team to insert new moments to flesh out the conflict. So it seemed possible Execution could improve the battle even more. However, viewing the latest preview, it's difficult to determine if that fight has received any additional treatment. It'd be a letdown if it was not, because a scene of that magnitude has to be experienced on the biggest screen with the best presentation possible.

The Second Season's Triumph

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become 2024's anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were premiered one after another, it was the focus of attention for an extended period in the anime community. Fans were aware of the issues behind the scenes, which made them value what they saw even more. People clamored to see if the disc version, made available on March 18, would include new footage to the battle or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were overjoyed to see precisely that, alongside tone adjustments, enhanced animation, and different color grading.

The Feature's Advantage

But the physical release can only improve what has already been presented in the television version, whereas the film has the potential to do the sequence justice with further changes and new animations entirely.

A Crowning Achievement

As it stands, these pair of installments act as the magnum opus of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be given special attention by the animation team, especially considering the issues they faced at the time. It's garnered the attention of viewers all over the world, and the Culling Games arc is a much-expected plotline of next year. If Mappa wants to begin the year strongly, run back the show's top scene once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've seen yet.
