Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Military Operations.

Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

Officials reported debris fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
