The Evolution of a Phenomenon can be characterized by distinct phases.

1. The Big Idea

A charismatic leader or leaders propose an innovative concept that promises a cure for struggling players.

Thus we find ourselves. They’re getting ready to storm the compound down in Brisbane. Tensions are rising. Smoke is rising from the out-houses. One individual, naked, nervous, the slogan POSITIVE INTENT written on his body as a statement, has come staggering through the lines and is being led away in secrecy for a temporary assignment elsewhere.

Do you recall the early days, when the world was still young? The initial phase, of pure instinct.

2. Initial Adoration

Team architects offer a new start, optimism ahead, love, redemption together who all believe in the big idea.

What did it represent at first? Just men on a balcony feeling good. Body art. Strength. Jawlines. Confident masculinity. Oh sure, The squad often say they don’t use the label, amusingly since it’s not recognized, what did we see?

Yet it’s clear what it is. It’s the player executing a stroke so unconventional it’s beyond belief. It’s the excitement of Ben Stokes in ultimate mode, a demeanor suggesting: thoughtful warrior, rugged appearance, natural look, truly contemporary you half-expect to look down and notice he’s fielding at mid-off bare-chested embracing nature.

It’s the opener continuing to have permission addressing the media, resembling a happy little woodland creature in a waistcoat, expressing thoughts like we’re challenging norms. Indeed, the vibe, initially, was only good energy.

3. The Growth Phase

Development stage. Cohesion maintained by rote learning of key phrases. These principles are often illogical to prove commitment.

Is it just me? The backlash, the fury, the sense of betrayal after the first Ashes Test defeat feels overblown, unwarranted. The batting collapsed in Perth, as they often do in Australia. Before that happens, there are two things to consider regarding this. In the past, at the start, of optimism and energy, I wrote an article labeling it a movement. Criticism followed, which proved the point because everyone knows a method to show something definitely isn’t a cult is when its acolytes send hundreds of furiously one-eyed messages objecting to the questioning of the philosophy.

What has happened recently are equally notable. Opposition to the style has now become the cult. Social media is furious, critical analysts, pictures of upset followers overseas missing out on play, reminiscent of investors demanding recourse.

Conversely, exists the larger scene of the host’s complex deep-seated frustration at these weirdly passive-aggressive buccaneers, stating, hey, that thing you love and have developed to distinguish yourselves from others, it’s just a joke ultimately.

And this is the real point. It’s all cults. The style was a trend as the game has its own culture. In fact, the sport in England is closed, a group, an elite gathering, an insular community with centuries of ceremonial past defining it. This has always been where influence is guarded. It’s the imperial sport of the nation, the early image-makers. And notably, Britain is itself a cult, a system of unknown levels, a place that literally still has a king.

The players have been isolated within this world from a young age. Seeking change, to foster positivity, they are simply replicating their upbringing, building another enclosure, a closed circle, but doing it this time with a new team and a leader encouraging individuality as long as yourself is quite a lot like myself.
